Rape is not your fault. You did not "get yourself pregnant" no matter what you did or did not do. Only a man can cause a pregnancy by leaving his bodily fluid inside your body. Nature does the rest.

If a woman is the victim of rape, she has the right to remove her attackers bodily fluid from her person, wherever it is located.

Keep in mind that spitting on someone or not revealing a contagious disease is considered a criminal assault, and may be punishable by law.

If the law considers someone spitting at you a crime, and you are allowed to wipe it away, the same should be true for any bodily fluid you did not ask to receive.

Sadly, the laws are behind on holding rapists accountable, but it is valuable to note that the law recognizes the potential danger in coming into contact with other people's bodily fluids.

NOT READY YET

Women or families who are not ready for children at this time in their lives are making mature, thoughtful choices.

Having children means putting your own health, life and goals on hold indefinitely.

Women and their partners may feel that the timing is not right for them to have a child due to various reasons, such as still being in school, career goals, lack of finances, or personal circumstances.

Even if they want children in the future, they know they are not emotionally or mentally prepared to become a parent at this time. A safe abortion ensures the mother can have a healthy pregnancy when she is ready.

MISCARRIAGE

Miscarriage is very common. More than 30% of pregnancies are miscarriages, and usually happen before a woman even knows she's pregnant.

If the body is unable to properly expel remaining tissue, it is considered an incomplete miscarriage, and treatment is necessary to assist the body. This will allow the body to heal properly and allow for future family planning.

Having a stable and supportive partner or being in an unhealthy relationship can influence a woman's decision to choose abortion.

Lack of support, or danger or violence in the home, make it easier to decide not to bring a defenseless child into an already unstable environment.

Some women may not want to raise a child alone, or with a partner who is not actively involved, or abusive.

An abortion can also help a woman escape her abuser, rather than force her to have lifelong contact with him, and endure more violence.

BODILY HARM

Pregnancy is hard on the body, and can even be fatal. Ectopic pregnancy is the most common cause of maternal mortality in the first trimester and a condition that women should know about.

It occurs when a pregnancy implants outside of the uterus. If left untreated, it can cause major internal bleeding and death.

Women may choose to end pregnancy if there are significant health risks for them. This can include serious medical conditions that could affect the woman's health, or fetal abnormalities that would significantly impact the quality of life for the child if carried to term.

LACK OF RESOURCES

Financial instability or inability to provide for a child's basic needs, such as housing, healthcare, education, and childcare expenses, can be a significant factor in the decision to seek an abortion.

Big expenses such as housing with more room and childcare are significant expenses women must consider, and many must bear that cost alone.

Child support, even when enforced, is only an average of $400 a month nationwide. This amount is clearly inadequate, so women must thoughtfully and realistically consider what resources are available, and for how long they are sustainable, before making significant life changes and adding expenses.

HIGH RISK

Some pre-existing conditions are severe, and can create high risk complications for the mother, some of which can be fatal.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES: Diabetes is a serious condition that prevents your body from breaking down sugar. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of diabetes that only occurs during pregnancy. One of the biggest risks of gestational diabetes is that your baby may grow much larger than normal, a condition called macrosomia. During delivery, a baby’s shoulders can get stuck, creating extreme complications during delivery. Gestational diabetes has no outward signs or symptoms.

PREECLAMSIA | HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: Preeclampsia is a condition that causes dangerously high blood pressure. It can be life-threatening if left untreated. Preeclampsia typically happens after 20 weeks of pregnancy, often in women who have no history of high blood pressure.

Women who have high risks and are otherwise not willing or able to care for a child, deserve the option to preserve their own health and mobility.
